Self Harm

Self-harm is often used as a release. A way of letting out bad or negative feelings.

Rarely the cause in its own right self-harm is usually a symptom of another problem – anxiety, depression, stress or bullying.

Far from uncommon it’s estimated that one in ten 15-16 year olds self-harm.

Signs of self-harm

  1. Cutting or burning their skin
  2. Punching or hitting themselves
  3. Misusing alcohol or drugs
  4. Deliberately starving themselves (anorexia nervosa) or binge eating (bulimia nervosa)
  5. Excessively exercising
